Controllers disconnect from the rig

Hi, this is the second set of rigsI work with Mgear and we are having a recurring issue two years appart. This time is Mgear 4.1.2

Nurbs controllers get disconnected from the geometry (they stop working as they should) randomly. This gets fixed by copying the animation with studio library on a fresh rig, but its counterintuitive. Either in DG or in Parallell, and its random hard to replicate

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Can you give some more information?

  • What version of Maya?
  • Is this just you, or multiple members of your team?
  • When they get disconnected, do they just stop following the rig? Does the rig still animate as expected? Or does the animation also break?
  • Once it disconnects, is it disconnected forever? If you restart Maya, for example, is it ever randomly fixed? (If it breaks forever, this indicates to me something more to do with the rig, and less to do with Maya settings like DG/parallel.)
  • Is there any animator on your team who does NOT ever experience this problem? If you sent them a scene that had disconnected, would it still be disconnected on their computer?

The first things I would check if this was me:

  1. Check your Set Key options. (Actually if you could share a screenshot here, that might help). I wonder if your settings are set to make keys on the entire hierarchy or something? (Not likely since you say this is random.)
  2. Are you using Proxy Attributes? That’s a setting you can choose when you build the rig. Since you are on an old version of mGear, I assume you’re on an old version of Maya. There used to be weird bugs with Proxy Attributes. I would test a rig rebuilt with this turned OFF.
  3. I would dig through a broken scene and try to find any strange anomalies:
    • Are there any strange colours in the channel box? Yellow, orange, green, purple, etc. where there should be red key colours.
    • Are there any keys on joints, groups, joints, shapes, etc.? That could explain why copying keys to Studio Library fixes the problem, because you might only be selecting controllers when you transfer keys.

That’s all I can think of for now.
