Hi
When I do a drag and drop install of Mgear (tested 5.1 and 5.2), it gives me a Mgear menu but when clicking that, it does not roll out any content. Is this maybe a known issue? Is there a way to fix?
Please, check the script editor for an error log, and share it here
Which Maya version are you using?
Hi Miquel!

Here is the issue, I will check the line ASAP
Hi Miquel, did you maybe already find something about the issue that causes this?
Hi @mackerB
Sorry for the late reply, I couldnât find any issue, and forgot to reply
Did you tried with a fresh preferences in maya?
Iâm not sure if youâre experiencing the exact same issue as I did, but I managed to solve mine, so Iâm sharing my solution here in case it helps.
I recently updated to mGear 5.3.3 on Maya 2027 (previously using Maya 2024 with mGear 5.2), but the mGear menu didnât show up on the top bar at all. Even when I forced the menu to generate via script, clicking it wouldnât open the dropdown, which sounds identical to your situation.
I eventually figured out that Maya wasnât reading the correct userSetup.py from the mGear module. Because Maya only executes the very first userSetup.py it finds in the system path and ignores the rest, an old, unused userSetup.py sitting in a higher-priority directory was overriding the mGear script.
I used the script below to list every userSetup.py file Maya recognizes in order of priority, and deleted the unused/ghost files sitting above the actual mGear module path.
import sys
import os
print("=== List of userSetup.py files recognized by Maya (Higher in the list = Higher priority) ===")
found_files = []
for p in sys.path:
target = os.path.join(p, "userSetup.py")
if os.path.exists(target):
found_files.append(target)
print(" -> Found:", target)
if not found_files:
print(" [Notice] No files found. Please check if the file extension is strictly .py!")
After removing those overriding files and restarting Maya, everything worked perfectly again! Hope this helps!
