Print statements slow down python scripts significantly. Ignoring them at each build/custom step would cause the rigs to build a lot faster. Errors would still show up as normal, and we can enable it again if we want the more granular data.

the option to toggle the log has been there for a few versions 
sadly it doesn’t filter for errors, just turn on/off. and also a debug mode with more information 
But I take note of the idea, thanks!
On a side note, I didn’t see much difference in the build speed turning off the log
