How do I keep the stretch from becoming excessive when using straps or bandages?

Hello,

First of all, please forgive me if my English is unclear or contains errors.
English is not my native language, so I am using translation tools to write this post.

I am working on clothing that fits close to the body, but the results produced by Warp or FFD Warp are not ideal. Are there any methods or tutorials that would help me create a better blendshape?

(Moved to #rigging-general since this is about rigging in general, not mGear.)

Hi, I’d suggest using skinning rather than a warp or lattice.

  • You can skin a flat copy of the wrappings, and then copy weights to the solid 2-sided version.
  • You can use ngSkinTools to help unify the weights in a certain area, so they don’t stretch. ngSkinTools has a “Unify” button to help with this.
  • You can consider adding helper joints. Skin to the helper joints, and then you still have the option to animate or drive those joints on top of the foot animation.
  • If you are using lattices, I assume this isn’t for a game engine. You can try using deltaMush to help get rid of some stretching too. But it’s best if you have a decent skinning foundation first. deltaMush can’t fix everything. It’s a final polish step.

Thank you very much for the suggestion; ngSkinTools’ “Unify” is a fantastic feature. I will complete the skinning and then refine the body shape based on that.
